I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.

For me service is a way of life. I started volunteering when I was eight and since then have worked with a variety of organizations whose missions range from direct human services to animal welfare. This practice stems from deeply held communitarian values: we are stronger together than we are apart; we have a responsibility to help one another make it through this life.
In my academic life this manifests in departmental and university service, but it is also reflected in my research. I strive to to do research that has practical implications for addressing the social and political challenges we face. As a result, I am currently conducting community-engaged research for an the Community Advocacy and Planning Coalition. |
